Yes. TERRA 4K as a new TERRA member, features high speed 4K CMOS image sensor with Dual Native ISO: 3200/800. It captures low-noise and wide-latitude images in regular scenes or low-light environment, easily.Dual native/base ISO means TERRA 4K has two different base sensitivities, the one as regular sensitivity, ISO 800, the other as high sensitivity ISO 3200. From 800 to 3200, the noise remains nearly the same, and the latitude also remains the same as 14 stops.For TERRA 4K, ISO ranges from 200 to 20480. The regular sensitivity as base ISO 800 covers from 200 to 1280, while high sensitivity as base ISO 3200 covers from 1280.
The image format of TERRA 4K is sub-S35 which between S35 and M43, its crop factor over full frame is 1.85.TERRA 6K employ standard S35 CMOS image sensor, the crop factor over full frame is 1.6.
KineEnhancer as highly accurate optic glass turns TERRA from S35 to Full Frame camera (Very closely) and increase maximum iris to One stop when using Full Frame EF/Nikon F lens, so EF Mounting adapter with KineEnhancer or Nikon mounting adapter with KineEnhancer is the best choice for you if you want to shoot full frame.The focal reducing factor of KineEnhancer is 0.72, then equivalent image frame of the TERRA 6K from S35 to full frame (1.1, crop factor over FF), while for TERRA 4K, the crop factor turns into 1.3!
Not exactly.TERRA has three working modes for different resolutions vs image format:
    1. Oversampling /downscale: remain image format unchanged, only ProRes effective;
    2. Cropping: image format reduces to get higher fps;
    3. KineEnhancer: it is a physical part embedded in the mounting adapter or EF mount. It increases equivalent image format from S35 to full frame, M4/3 to S35;
Oversampling + Crop mode + KineEnhancer = infinity combination of resolution, fps and framing. Please refer to TERRA Tech Spec. Note: the tech spec does not take KineEnhancer into account.In short, TERRA outputs super high quality 6K/4K/3K/2K ProRes for 6K model.

2. Codecs/Apple ProRes/KRW

TERRA records two intermediate codecs: KineRAW (.krw) and Apple ProRes, in-camera.
    1. KineRAW: cinema-level codec is developed by Kinefinity with great efforts and resources: lossless, with high efficiency. It really fits 8K, 6K, 4K recording and HiSpeed recording, saves much more storage room, for easier data backup. TERRA can record KineRAW (.krw) at all resolution and fps, except in-camera downscale resolution as 4K and 2K @S35. Its average compression level is from 2:1 to 3:1, no color sampling and loss.
    2. ProRes: the golden standard of filmmaking post-workflow. TERRA supports in-camera ProRes recording at any resolution and at any fps, such as 6K ProRes, 4K wide 100fps ProRes. ProRes 422HQ/422/422LT/422Proxy are four formats available in TERRA. Benefits from its high efficiency, 4K ProRes can be playback smoothly on the entry-level MacBook.

The following table shows the recording time lengths for the two codecs (ProRes has different formats as ProRes422HQ/422/422LT/422Proxy) over different fps and resolution (on 500GB KineMAG):
Record FormatRec time length@KineMAG 500GB

6K@25fps  ProRes422LT(.mov)1hr and 30mins
Note: actual recording time may vary over different scenario.
The two versions of TERRAs have different latitudes:
  1. TERRA 6K employs the same S35 CMOS sensor with KineMAX 6K, also the same latitude. It’s 14 stops at normal mode, and 16 stops for golden 3K;
  2. TERRA 4K employs a whole-new CMOS image sensor featuring with high speed & low noise. The latitude is 14 stops at regular 4K and cropping mode, and more than 14 stops at whole frame 2K mode(using all pixels and oversampling down to 2K).
No.For TERRA, both the latitude of Apple ProRes and KineRAW codecs are the same. ProRes mov files are burnt with the same KineLOG curve as KRW RAW.
NO.No matter what kind of recording formats, TERRA records footages as:
  1. KRW with KineLOG or ProRes;
  2. 3D LUT when monitoring;
  3. Audio files (ProRes mov file will embed the two channels of audio, if project fps is the same with recording fps).
The image color will be the same with the ones when recording and monitoring, if loading the monitoring LUT When playback KRW or ProRes footages on workstation or laptop. It will be the low-contrast and logged image with high latitude if not loading any LUTs.
For in-camera recording, TERRA does not support Cineform and CinemaDNG.However, you can transcode KRW footages into CinemaDNG by KineStation on Windows or MAC if record format set as KRW, but Cineform codec is not supported by KineStation.Note: HiSpeed KRW footages can not be transcoded into CinemaDNG, but it can be transcode into any other ProRes format by KineStation. For resolution and fps @HiSpeed, please refer to spec table of TERRA.
TERRA can record KineRAW (.krw) and ProRes, in-camera:
  1. Lossless KineRAW (.krw) is developed by Kinefinity for high data rate reserving the maximum details of images without color sampling and loss, equivalent to RGB444. it has 12bits depth.
  2. ProRes422HQ/422/422LT/422Proxy: all are YUV422, are processed as 12bits internally, though output are 10 bits. ProRes422HQ is able to satisfy color grading in post workflow for most cases, as it is visually lossless with KineLOG loaded when recording.
TERRA cannot record ProRes 4444XQ/4444 directly, but can record KineRAW(.KRW) as RAW format, then you can transcode KRW into ProRes 4444XQ/4444 by free software KineStation on PC or MAC (slow); Or transcode by SCRATCH with PC or MAC (faster).Note: for TERRA, one-year license SCRATCH is not included, but you can apply for 30 days’ trial.
Yes. It supports 4:3 Anamorphic:
    1. TERRA 4K: 3700×2800@50fps;
    2. TERRA 6K: 4320×3240@25fps, 4096×3072@25fps;
4:3 Anamorphic is included in every TERRA for free.
TERRA does not support proxy recording. And it records either KRW or ProRes, not at the same time.

3. Slow-mo/Quick-mo

Yes. all TERRA models are capable of slow motion capture (overcrank).For TERRA 4K,
  • Native 4K wide up to 100fps; oversampling 2K also features 2K wide up to 100fps;
  • Cropping 3K wide up to 150fps;
  • Cropping 2K wide up to 240fps.
For TERRA 6K, there is no slow-mo for native 6K resolution and golden 3K, oversampling 4K resolution, at S35 framing. The slow-mo only works as HiSpeed or Cropping, or mixture of them, roughly,
  • 4K wide up to 100fps, at HiSpeed Mode;
  • Cropping 4K Wide up to 56fps;
  • Cropping 3K wide up to 150fps, at HiSpeed Mode;
  • Cropping 3K wide up to 75fps;
  • Cropping 2K wide up to 225fps, at HiSpeed Mode.
  • Cropping 2K wide up to 110fps.
All the slow-mo recordings do not have limitation on recording time until SSD is full. Besides, frame Rate can be adjusted as 2~MAX fps, step accuracy of 0.001fps.
All the slo-mo and HiSpeed are included in every TERRA for Free.
Yes. all TERRA models are capable of quick motion capture (undercrank). As of undercrank/Quick-Mo, the lowest fps is down to 2fps under current firmware. You can set any custom sensor fps between lowest and highest fps, the accuracy is 0.001fps, while recording fps is set by project fps in the camera. It provides much more possibilities over fixed fps like 24, 25, 30fps.

4. Internal Process/Oversample/Crop

Oversampling/Downscale: recording(output) resolution is less than actual sampling resolution by image sensor, while the image format of recording is same with the image format of sampling. For example, TERRA 6K samples the image with full pixel as 5760×3240(6K UHD), S35 image format. There is in-camera downscale process from 6K to 4K if the record resolution is 3840×2160(4K UHD): the the image format of record resolution remains same as S35, but the record resolution is lower than sampling resolution.The process of oversampling or downscale as following (TERRA 6K to 4K as example)
    1. For every single frame, there are 6Kx3K pixels for sampling: the 6K is bayer-patterned pixels(grey scale);
    2. 6K Debayer: from bayer pattern into 6K RGB domain;
    3. From 6K RGB to 4K RGB by 3:2 scaling down;
    4. From 4K RGB to 4K YUV domain, encode and compress, output into ProRes.
From above description, oversample only outputs non-RAW file format like ProRes. For a 6K bayer pattern CMOS, the effective horizontal resolution on RGB is around 6Kx0.7 = 4.2K, and the effective horizontal resolution remains nearly when downscaling from 6K to 4K (a little bit less than 4.2K). The image quality is equivalent to three 4K R/G/B image sensor sampling, in terms of resolution.The benefits of oversampling/downscale over direct sampling of bayer pattern system are:
    1. Higher effective resolution: 6K oversampling to 4K, it gets 4K R/G/B effective resolution, but the effective resolution is only around 4K*0.7= 2.8K if using 4K bayer pattern CMOS sensor and output 4K images. Image seems sharper and crispper.
    2. Less noise level;
    3. Longer recording time: double recording time for same capacity of SSD media (6K to 4K);
    4. Same image format: it is NOT cropping mode. It remains the S35 format when lower resolution outputs.
    5. Not introduce any extra aliasing/moire: actually the aliasing seems less even if original image has some aliasing. It is advantage of oversample. On the contrary, Undersampling or upscaling may introduce extra aliasing.
Note: the frame rate does not boost though the recording resolution is lower: the highest frame rate of lower recording resolution is same with highest frame rate of full resolution at S35.As of KineOS5.0, it supports following oversampling operation:
    1. S35 3840×2160 (4K UHD) from 6K full sampling; S35 1920×1080 (2K UHD) from Golden 3K sampling for TERRA 6K;
    2. S35 2048×1080  (2K DCI) and 1920×1080(2K HD) from 4K full sampling.
For detailed resolution and frame rates, please refer to TERRA Tech Spec: resolutions marked as Oversampling are done by oversampling/downscale operation.For most projects, oversampling is best choice for image quality, economic storage space, fast post-workflow.
Cropping means that image sensor only utilizes center part of image as effective sampling area. Generally speaking, cropping mode can boost fps higher than full resolution sampling.Taking TERRA 6K as example, the max fps is 30 when 6K sampling and output; but the max fps increases to 59fps if 3K cropping mode (S16 image format), and 88fps if 2K cropping mode(16mm image format).In the context of Kine cameras, 4K wide, 3K wide or 2K wide means aspect ratio is 2.39:1 widescreen output. 4K/2K Wide over standard 4K/2K, it is also a kind of cropping mode: cut off top and bottom of image while remaining horizontal resolution unchanged. It gains extra 30% frame rate over standard aspect ratio.Cropping mode results in narrower FOV, or longer equivalent focal length of lens.TERRA supports three cropping mode like M4/3, S16 and 16mm. TERRA squeezes every ounce of performance out of the image sensor.Note: Cropping is very different from oversampling due to the different principles, though both outputs lower resolution:
OversamplingCrop
Image formatunchangedsmaller
Effective resolutionimprovedunchanged
Noise levelbetterunchanged
Record formatProResRAW/ProRes
Frame rateunchangedhigher
For detailed resolution and frame rates, please refer to TERRA Tech Spec: all non-S35 image formats are cropping mode. It may be also HiSpeed or Oversampling when cropping.Like oversampling/downscaling, cropping mode does NOT introduce any extra aliasing/moire: actually the aliasing level remains same even if original image has some aliasing.
HiSpeed mode of TERRA 6K is a special operation mode to make CMOS image sensor sample images at much higher speed. The frame rate increases much more than normal mode, but it may suffers a little bit aliasing. TERRA 6K has HiSpeed mode, but TERRA 4K do not have such operation mode.For TERRA 6K, HiSpeed includes: S35 4K Wide @100fps, M4/3 3K Wide @150fps, S16 2K Wide @225fps. For TERRA, HiSpeed footages can be recorded as ProRes or KineRAW(.krw), in-camera.Note: For TERRA 6K, HiSpeed KRW footages can NOT be transcoded into CinemaDNG, but it can be transcoded into ProRes up to 444XQ by KineStation. For resolution and fps at HiSpeed mode, please refer to spec of TERRA 6K.For detailed resolution and frame rates, please refer to TERRA Tech Spec: all resolution/frame rate marked as HiSpeed works as HiSpeed.
Only TERRA 6K features Golden 3K.TERRA 6K utilize the same CMOS sensor with KineMAX; when capturing 6K binned into 3K with advanced algorithm. Then,
    1. 16 stops:Capturing as 6K 12bits, its native latitude is 14 stops, it turns into 16 stops after binning; Latitude will be more if final delivery is 2K/1080p;
    2. Still S35mm framing All pixels as 6Kx3K captures lights, so frame is still S35mm frame, not crop;
    3. No Moire: With very advanced and patented algorithm for pixel merging, it will not add extra moire;
    4. Reduce Aliasing: Aliasing from debayer will be much reduced from 3K downconverted to 2K if final output is 2K;
    5. Reframe: 3K image is 100% more than 2K image if target is 2K, 100% room for reframing;
    6. Real resolution is 2K: Recovering R/G/B from Single-chip CMOS by debayer: Effective resolution will be 3K*0.7=2.1K>2K; equivalent to RGB 3-chip 2K CCD sampling.
    7. Upconverted to 4K from 3K if 4K delivery required;
    8. Much lower data bits: Compared to 4K or 6K capturing and recording, it demands much lower speeds to SSD. Recording 3K, TERRA can do it as ProRes 422HQ/422/422LT/422Proxy mov online. Saving SSD and benefit for DIT, data copy and backup.
That’s why we call TERRA 6K Binning 3K as golden 3K.

5. Shutter/Others

TERRA 4K/6K employ different CMOS sensors and internal process, so the shutter mode is different:
  1. TERRA 4K  features with high speed & low noise 4K CMOS image sensor. The native frame rate of CMOS image sensor of TERRA 4K is up to 100fps, so the TERRA 4K can record 4K wide up to 100fps, 3K wide up to 150fps, 2K wide up to 240fps. At the same time, its rolling effect is very low due to its high native frame rate, even running at regular fps.
  2. TERRA 6K employs wide gamut S35 CMOS sensor with rolling shutter. If you want to take action shots, TERRA 6K features HiSpeed mode which reduces rolling effect greatly, seems like global shutter. HiSpeed mode works as ProRes and takes effect only on S35 4K, M4/3 3K, S16 2K, Not 6K and Golden 3K. In another word, you can get best footages at normal mode or get much lower rolling effect for quick motions at HiSpeed mode!
TERRA 6K’s CMOS is the same 6K wide-color-gamut CMOS sensor (rolling shutter) with KineMAX 6K. And their codec could be the same (KineMAX 6K can record ProRes and KRW if update to KineOS 5.0 for KineMAX.), so their image quality is totally the same.For hardware internal processing, TERRA 6K is optimized for ProRes, so TERRA is better than KineMAX in terms of ProRes encoding capacity.For interfaces, TERRA has more new interfaces for KineMON monitors, KineGRIP II, etc, 7mm KineMAG+, new designed KineKIT for TERRA.For weight and form factor, TERRA features much smaller form factor than KineMAX, especially without KineBACK. KineMAX has a camera body with integrated functions and interfaces.In short, TERRA 6K can be regarded as a modular, much smaller and more powerful KineMAX.
No, it does not support such HDR mode, since such HDR is not very effective for capturing motion pictures.

1. Power Supply and DC outputs

TERRA has three power supply interfaces, and the power supply range is 11~19V:
    1. KineBAT 120Wh (Compatible with SONY V mount battery): Such super compact V-mount battery as KineBAT 120Wh fits TERRA very well if you buy the KineBACK which integrates a robust V-mount battery plate made of aluminum alloy. The KineBAT 120Wh power TERRA over four hours. Besides, you can also use other V-mount battery power TERRA directly.
    2. GripBAT 45Wh (Compatible with SONY BP-U30): you can use small GripBAT 45Wh battery to power TERRA if you purchase the SideGrip. SideGrip is designed for TERRA with power supply and full control of the camera. Metal structure is applied for better heat dissipation, which also make it more solid than other handgrip for cinematographers to shoot in harsh conditions. GripBAT 45Wh battery power TERRA for more than one hour thanks to TERRA’s low-power design.
    3. Other ways, Use external power source to power TERRA by a special D-Tap cord. TERRA has a push-pull power port with 2-PIN. There is AC-DC adapter to power TERRA directly. You can also DIY a power cable to power TERRA based power cord with open ended, like powering from gimbal or drones.
The KineBACK only has V-mount version. If you want to use Anton-Bauer(golden mount) broadcast battery, a V-mount to Anton-Bauer Plate Adapteris needed as it can be mounted on the V-mount battery plate, then supports Anton-Bauer (golden mount) broadcast battery.
Yes, if your TERRA is configured with KineBACK.KineBACK features one 12V@1A DC outputs, which power external monitors, wireless transmitters and other accessories. It reduces the usage of other external batteries for accessories like LP-E6, NP-F970 and Nikon batteries. It brings you the big convenience to power management of the camera and accessories system.Power output port is a 4-pin MOCO socket. A power cord is free of charge when shipping KineBACK (output port is a standard DC port).In addition, there are two standard D-Tap outputs on the top of V-mount battery plate at KineBACK. Note that D-Tap outputs are connected directly to V-mount battery, so the output voltage varies from 11V to 17V, instead of regulated 12V. Like XLR ports, D-Tap ports also have a silicone cover to protect the internal electrical connection.There are also two standard D-Tap outputs on the top of super compact V-mount batter as KineBAT 120Wh.Including KineBAT 120Wh, the system has five branches of DC power output, which satisfy needs of most scenarios.

2. Lens Mount

MAVO LF/MAVO/TERRA has universal KineMOUNT as the native mount, but it needs to work with different types of adapters for lenses.

With KineMOUNT, you will get the maximum possibility for using different lens even with different mounts: using different mounting adapter on demand. Besides, just like attaching a lens, it is very easy and fast to attach the adapter to KineMOUNT with no need of adjusting FFD.

    1. PL mounting adapter II: For cinema PL lens;
    2. PL mounting adapter II with e-ND: For cinema PL lens with built-in electronic ND;
    3. EF Mounting Adapter II: For EF lens;
    4. EF mounting adapter II with KineEnhancer: For equivalent full-frame shooting with full-frame EF lens;
    5. EF Mounting Adapter II with e-ND: For EF lens with built-in electronic ND;
    6. SONY FE/E Mounting Adapter: For SONY FE/E lens, currently the E mounting adapter only supports full manual lenses like Fuji MK18-55, 50-135.

Note: EF mounting adapter supports electronic iris-control, while Nikon F mounting adapter does not support electronic iris-control, but it can support only G lens iris-control by technical ring. In addition, individual mounting adapters are accessories, not included in the body when purchase.

Since 2014, every mount or mounting adapter made by Kinefinity is lock-type mount, like cinema PL mounting lock mechanism. It provides much better stability; fits very well in professional way when video shots using follow-focus gear.

TERRA cine camera does not integrate internal ND, because the mechanical ND makes the system larger and heavier. However, choose mounting adapters with electronic ND (e-ND) onto KineMOUNT, it is the best way to realize integration ND to TERRA, while remaining enough compactness. Currently, there are two mounting adapters with e-ND:
  1. PL mounting adapter II (with electronic ND, e-ND): latest PL mounting adapter with e-ND, 0.6~3.0 continuous tuning;
  2. EF mounting adapter II (with electronic ND, e-ND):  latest EF mounting adapter with e-ND, 0.6~3.0 continuous tuning.
Mounting adapters with Built-in Electronic ND (e-ND) employs high-precision hybrid of optics and electronic technology. It covers the widest range from 0.6 to 3.0. At the same time, It remains consistent color accuracy over such wide range.Besides, the stepless adjustment by camera itself provides unparalleled smooth transitions from brightness to darkness.Note: these mounting adapters with e-ND can not set to be Clear. You need buy a mounting adapter without e-ND to get Clear shot.
Yes if the EF lens is on the whitelist of Kine camera.For mechanical operation:
  1. EF mount or EF mounting adapter without KineEnhancer support both EF lens and EF-S lens;
  2. EF mount or EF mounting adapter with KineEnhancer support only EF lens, not EF-S lens. Also not support the lens with moving glass module when focusing.
Current firmware does not support stabilizer of Lens, nor focusing of lens. It may be OK by upgrading firmware.
Very pitiful that KineEnhancer can not be removed or assembled by users, because KineEnhancer impacts back focus/flange focal distance (FFD) of mount too much. The removal of KineEnhancer leads to FFD of mount/adapter mismatch too much.Please choose KineMOUNT and related mounting adapters, like adapter w/ or w/o KineEnhancer, if you want to shoot in native S35 framing or Full frame.It is very easy to change a mounting adapter on KineMOUNT, like swapping a PL lens on PL mount.
Kine camera employs lock-type/Cine-style EF/Nikon F mount from 2014 Jan. Its fixing way is very similar to Cine PL mount: lock ring rotation, not lens rotation to make sure EF/Nikon F lens locked firmly and to be contacted well with pogo-pin contact inside of EF mount in any case. Compared to traditional lock way based on spring metal, the new EF/Nikon F mount gains much better stability; fits very well in professional way when video shots using follow-focus gear.Refer to How to use New Lock-style EF mount
Yes.The cost is US$499 from native EF mount to KineMOUNT. And you need to buy EF mounting adapter or PL mounting adapter, etc if you want to use EF lens or PL lens. Then the total cost is: US$499 + Cost of adapters.The cost is US$499 from native EF mount to native PL mount.Note: the part replaced will not return to customers.
TERRA KineMOUNT supports SONY FE/E mounting adapter for E mount lenses. Currently the E mounting adapter only supports full manual lenses like Fuji MK18-55, 50-135.For TERRA, there is not mounting adapter for MFT mount.
Now, electronic ND(e-ND) and KineEnhancer can NOT be integrated into one mounting adapter. For mounting adapter, either electronic ND(e-ND) or KineEnhancer.Besides, neither electronic ND(e-ND) nor KineEnhancer can NOT be integrated into SONY FE/E mounting adapter, due to its short FFD(flange focal distance).
No, neither electronic ND(e-ND) nor KineEnhancer can NOT be integrated into SONY FE/E mounting adapter, due to its short FFD(flange focal distance).

3. Monitoring: Monitors, EVF

TERRA provides three ports for monitoring:
  1. KineMON: support KineMON fullHD 5″ field monitor;
  2. HD monitoring port(Type A): compatible with most field monitors and EVF;
  3. Two monitoring SDI ports(standard size): KineBACK provides extra two 3G SDI outputs. It only supports monitors with 3G SDI input.
You can upload the LUT/color style which you like, or DP like, or designed by post house to TERRA, so that the workflow from shooting to post will be optimised and reduce the time for you, also help on-site lighting and art work.For recording KRW or Apple ProRes with custom LUT, it does not burn into footage: footage is always logged (by KineLOG3), on-site LUT for monitoring is saved to the same folder.The size of 3D LUT is from 8x8x8 up to 33x33x33.There is no limit on numbers of custom LUT uploaded to TERRA.
If you buy bare camera body, there is no monitors or EVF. You need to config the camera body with additional monitors or EVF, or buy basic/professional package directly.KineMON is the best choice for TERRA monitoring. It is included in basic or professional package.It features 1080p full-HD, 16M colors. Only one Kine video cord is needed for the monitor to get power supply and video signal from TERRA.KineMON is easy to be mounted on the camera body firmly by using appropriate accessories for different needs. The monitor weighs only 260g, the video cord 60g, rotation mount 40g, and the coldshoe mount 50g, for minimum extra pressure on the camera.For other standard monitoring options:
  1. HD monitoring port(Type A): compatible with most field monitors and EVF;
  2. Two monitoring SDI ports(standard size): KineBACK provides extra two 3G SDI outputs. It only supports monitors with 3G SDI input.
All TERRA monitoring outputs show the same image, though TERRA has four monitoring outputs:
  1. KineMON port: 5″ FullHD KineMON field monitor;
  2. Digital HD port, type A: to general monitors with digital HD input;
  3. Dual 3G SDI ports, integrated into KineBACK: it supports only monitor with 3G SDI ports.
All the monitoring paths have the same video output. Customers can not set different video output for different monitoring paths.
No.The monitoring rate of monitoring outputs can be set as 23.976… 60fps, it is different from real frame rate of clips themselves. Do not recommend the monitoring signal to be recorded by external recorder.
Yes.Press center button of multi-function wheel to switch different image output:
  1. Display with core parameters;
  2. Display with parameters and waveforms;
  3. Clean Display.

4. Record Media: SSD, Footages

TERRA does not prohibit users from using third-party SSDs. Users could try to use third-party SSD, but generally speaking, third-party SSD are consumer-type, not optimized for professional camera recording. So we only recommend 7mm KineMAG as record media for TERRA.Note: Performance on data spec are guaranteed by KineMAG SSD. There is no technical support or help on recording issues such as frame drop or data loss if using third-party SSD.
The bit rate depends on resolution, fps and code type you use to shoot, the maximum bit rate is 430 MBytes/s. We only recommend 7mm KineMAG as record media for TERRA.Note: the bit rate does not stand for the writing speed of SSD. The normal writing speeds of most consumer-type SSDs are not suitable or stable for cinema cameras.
Typically, 4K ProRes422HQ, 500GB KineMAG. It can record up to one hour and twenty mins. For 2K ProRes422HQ, 500GB, up to five hours and thirty mins.The following table shows the record time length over different record codec and SSD capacity:

Not necessarily.When clips playback on TERRA, it will load the LUT that the clip was shot for monitoring. Its contrast and saturation is normal if Neutral LUT loaded.
TERRA playback at full speed and smoothly for 4K and below resolution. However it may slow down a little bit for 6K resolution.

5. Audio

TERRA has three ways to record sound:
  1. in-camera MIC: mono, it can record sound even without external microphone;
  2. 3.5mm mic-in(Plug-in-power): stereo, works with external microphone with 3.5mm plug;
  3. KineAudio (XLR phantom, 48V): dual balanced XLR inputs, very high recording quality, it is integrated in KineBACK.
There is a VU meter to show input level of in-cam MIC or KineAudio at the left corner in the Liveview display (or audio level of some clip when playback). There is 3.5mm headphone socket which can be used for audio monitoring or playback by earphone. What you hear by earphone is what to be recorded as in-camera audio.It generates two uncompressed audio files when recording no matter what kind of mic type. The audio track will be packaged into a ProRes mov file directly if the record codec is ProRes mov or transcoded by KineStation if project fps equals to sensor fps.
Thanks to low power design of TERRA, TERRA just uses two quiet fans for cooling processing unit and camera body. Fan noise is hardly to be heard for most cases.For audio recording by in-camera mic, since the mic is placed in the camera, it will record the fan noise to some degree.For the two quiet fans inside the camera:
  1. One is core fan cooling the Core Processor; the fan runs quietly for most of time, and can NOT be set manually.
  2. The other is body fan cooling the whole camera body; the body fan can be set manually.You can adjust the body fan speed (factory set to 30%): it can be adjusted from 15% to 100% according to the outside temperature, even turn off the fan.

6. Basic KIT/Cage, Accessories

TERRA 4K and TERRA 6K have the same new interfaces, then share the same dedicated accessories.

KineKIT-TERRA is designed, made specifically for TERRA by Movcam. It is a basic KIT, means that it does NOT including Matte box nor Follow-Focus. It features lightweight and robustness, and is compatible with any accessories with 15mm rod system. Please visit KineKIT-TERRA to get more information.If you want to buy Matte box, follow focus, etc other general accessories, we recommend TERRA full KIT: [css3_grid id=’terra_kit_en’]
TERRA has a series of new interfaces and its body size shrinks a lot, so the accessories for previous Kine camera model may not fit TERRA any more.About the compatibility of these accessories,
  1. KineKIT for KineMAX/KineMINI, NOT compatible;
  2. 9mm KineMAG, NOT compatible; TERRA uses 7mm SSD, like 7mm KineMAG;
  3. EF mounting adapter, Nikon F mounting adapter, PL mounting adapter, B4 mounting adapters shipped before 2016 Oct: NOT compatible, because KineMOUNT of TERRA is redesigned;
  4. Other general accessories can be used with TERRA.

7. Work with Stabilizer, and other items

Due to super lightweight TERRA and small form factor, TERRA can work with most of light gimbal, like Ronin MX.Recommend Ronin MX if you use a little bit heavier lens like Leica Summicron-C prime.TERRA can be powered by Ronin powering system by a special cable.
Typically, Knight D100 from Movcam is OK.
So far, there is only WIFI option which needs extra charge. Buy WIFI module to enable WIFI function, and turn your mobile device into as remote controller.Multi-camera sync function is embedded in KineBACK.Just send the SN of camera body to Kinefinity sales service email when you buy some in-camera option in Kinefinity online store. Kinefinity will send you a soft key named as kineraw.opt based on the SN of camera and factory setting of your camera. You use the soft key to upgrade your camera.
Yes. TERRA supports multi-cam sync, 3D or VR ready, and it may be the best camera to setup 3D and VR system, due to its super lightweight (less than 1KG) and compact body.  3D/SYNC of TERRA also realize the true synchronization of CMOS sensors as following:
  1. Timecode SYNC;
  2. Frame SYNC;
  3. CMOS sensors SYNC with mismatch less than 5us.
Sync mechanism is realized through SYNC port on KineBACK. In another word, only with KineBACK, TERRA can be hardware-ready for 3D/VR SYNC:
  1. For 3D system, both TERRA cameras need to be equipped with KineBACK and a SYNC cord connecting the SYNC ports of the two KineBACKs. No extra software option needs to be purchased;
  2. For a multi-camera sync system (more than two), all TERRA cameras need to be equipped with KineBACK. Besides, you should purchase a KineSYNC device and a few SYNC cords: one KineSYNC device can sync up to eight TERRAs (one master camera and seven slave cameras).
In short, TERRA + KineBack is a simple system ready for 3D/VR shooting.Master camera can sync slave camera when hardware is ready and connection is done. Just press the REC button on Master camera, all cameras will work at the exact same time.

About the post-workflow of TERRA

Quicktime player can playback ProRes clips directly after downloading QuickTime7. And nearly all NLE and DI softwares support ProRes codec.Check the software for more information about related softwares.
ProRes codec is so efficient that lap-top with mainstream configuration can edit and do primary grading 2K even 4K ProRes codec smoothly.For rendering purpose, you always need powerful computer to speed up rendering, no matter what codecs.
So far, only SCRATCH (V8.4 or above) supports KRW codec natively.We are working with other DI vendors to support KRW in different DI softwares directly.

No. It is different from KineMINI and KineMAX.However, TERRA customers can buy SCRATCH at super discount. The price of 1-yr license of SCRATCH is only US$199 for TERRA customers.
Please visit the introduction of KRW post-workflow as Workflow of KineRAW(.KRW)Note: TERRA does not support proxy recording.
KineStation is a software developed by Kinefinity to transcode KineRAW(.KRW) clips into other different intermediate codecs like ProRes, CinemaDNG etc.For TERRA, the in-camera record codec as ProRes422HQ and KineRAW. And KineStation for TERRA does not support Cineform any more. KineStation is needed when you want to take CinemaDNG workflow or ProRes4444, ProRes4444XQ.
The file system of KineMAG SSD can be set as HFS or NTFS in TERRA.
    1. Always format SSD in-camera, not on a MAC;
    2. For Windows, set file system as NTFS in TERRA, and format SSD as NTFS in-camera. Then the SSD is NTFS, so that you can access SSD without any issues.
    3. For MacOS, set file system as HFS or NTFS in TERRA. A very good feature is that NTFS SSD is read-only in MacOS, then protects the footages on SSD.
Hardware level, you may use any SATA to USB 3.0 cable to connect KineMAG SSD to your computers. No need special SSD reader.
