TERRA: Smaller, yet more powerful Cinema camera with high performance, while easy to be used like DSLR for video shooting. Employing S35 frame CMOS sensor, it can record up to 5K or 6K resolution; 4K slow-mo up to 100fps, 2K slow-mo up to 200fps. ProRes422HQ (.mov) and lossless compressed RAW (.krw) can be recorded in-camera on 2.5″ SSD directly, so TERRA speeds up post-workflow greatly if using ProRes and also keeps max room for grading if using lossless RAW (.krw).

TERRA has two versions based on different CMOS sensors. One is the same 6K wide-color-gamut CMOS sensor (rolling shutter) with KineMAX 6K, and the other is the 5K dual-gain CMOS sensor with Dual Shutter Modes. Both models features very high resolution, wide latitude and high fps, same size and form factor though different CMOS sensors and different processing.

TERRA 6K 

6K Resolution  TERRA 6K is capable of Capturing and Recording 6K RAW (.krw) without external recorder, but also is the only camera to record 6K ProRes. 6K details and framing space is beyond imagination, > 18Million pixels in one frame: 9 times of Full HD/1080p, 2.25 times of UHD/3840×2160! Every single frame matches high-end DSLR RAW photo!

TERRA 5K 

5K Resolution  TERRA 5K is capable of Capturing and Recording 6K RAW (.krw) without external recorder, but also can record 5K ProRes in real time. 5K details means 13.8Million pixels in single frame: 7 times of Full HD/1080p, 1.56 times of UHD/3840×2160! Images of super high resolution makes delivery output sharper and more clean: much better image quality.

16 f-stops TERRA 6K employs state-of-art CMOS sensor: 14 f-stops with 12bits output at 6K resolution; amazing 16 f-stops at binning 3K (S35 framing) & binning 2K resolution (M4/3 framing). It brings you not only maximum details, but also maximum latitude in every frame: help you create without boundaries.

15 f-stops TERRA 5K employs a brand-new CMOS image sensor. Thanks to Dual Gain technology, the latitude is up to 15 f-stops at rolling shutter, and 13 f-stops at global shutter. 5K@60fps, 4K@100fps, 2K@200fps.

Rolling Shutter TERRA 6K shares the same state-of-art 6K CMOS sensor (rolling shutter) with KineMAX 6K. It is rolling shutter type, then suffers some rolling effect especially at 6K resolution. However, TERRA 6K features HiSpeed mode to record 4K/3K/2K which reduces rolling effect greatly, seems like global shutter. It allows TERRA 6K to handle quick movement shootings, like handheld, shots on shoulder in documentary style.

Dual Shutter Mode TERRA 5K is the only cinema camera with dual shutter modes in the market. That means TERRA 5K could choose rolling shutter to get best latitude, lowest noise level and fastest frame rates, and switch to Global shutter to get zero-distortion in moving situation. For TERRA 5K, you have two professional cameras with different capturing ability.

4K 100fps SLOW-MO For TERRA 6K supports 4K Wide Slow-Mo up to 100fps at HiSpeed S35 and 2K Wide to 225fps at HiSpeed S16. TERRA 5K supports 5K Wide Slow-Mo up to 60fps at S35 , 4K Wide to 100fps at M4/3 and 2K Wide to 200fps at 16mm. As of undercrank/quick-mo, the lowest fps is down to 6fps under current firmware. Any custom sensor fps can be set between lowest and highest fps with step of0.001fps.


ProRes for All Res and All Fps  TERRA allows lossless RAW (.krw) recording or ProRes recording directly. For ProRes codec, it does not only support regular 2K/4K ProRes, but also has ability to record ProRes 422HQ for all resolution and all fps which the TERRA supports, like 6K ProRes, 5K 50fps ProRes, 4K wide 100fps ProRes, 2K@225fps for HiSpeed mode. ProRes as an industry standard is widely supported by DI/NLE softwares. TERRA with ProRes speeds both shooting and post-workflow at the same time.

KRW

Lossless KineRAW  KineRAW (.krw) codec, cinema-level codec is developed by Kinefinity with great efforts and resources. Average compression level is 2:1~3:1, lossless compression algorithm: no color sampling and loss. The 500GB KineMAG+ SSD could record around 80 minutes 4K RAW clips with its date rate slightly larger than ProRes422HQ. It can be transcoded into up to ProRes4444XQ for ProRes workflow or CinemaDNG for CinemaDNG workflow by KineStation; It really fits 4K, 5K, 6K recording and HiSpeed recording: reserving max grading room, saving much storage spaces and easier data backup.

2.5″ SSD recording media TERRA employs standard 2.5″ 7mm SSD SATA3.0 as recording media to provide compatibility of 3rd-party SSD, though TERRA is so small. There are lots of off-the-shelf 7mm SSD available. However performance of 3rd party SSD is not guaranteed, only 7mm KineMAG+ SSD is recommended for serious shootings.

Custom in-camera LUT  You can upload the LUT/color style which you like, or DP like, or designed by post house to TERRA, so that the workflow from shooting to post will be optimised and reduce the time for you, also help on-site lighting and art work. For recording KRW or ProRes with custom LUT, it does not burn into footage: footage is always logged (by KineLOG3), on-site LUT for monitoring is saved to the same folder. The size of 3D LUT is from 8x8x8 up to 33x33x33.

Multi-Framing Oversampling + Crop mode + KineEnhancer = infinity combination of resolution, fps and framing. With the help of in-camera oversampling, TERRA records to 6K/5K ProRes, but also 4K/3K/2K ProRes with sharper and more clean images at S35. The framing can be from S35 up to full frame if using KineEnhancer, while cropping mode can boost the higher fps. TERRA supports above three modes to get multi-framing and multi res, at different fps.

4K 4:3 Anamorphic TERRA 6K provides 4K 4:3 frame as 4320×3240@25fps, and TERRA 5K provides 3.6K 4:3 frame as 3600×2700 @50fps. Aspect ratio of 4:3 matches anamorphic lens with factor of 2, so that it will gain CinemaScope frame as 8:3(2.66:1). With the desqueezed process in post-workflow, it can reach up to 8640×3240 (8K) or 7200×2700 CinemaScope!

Four Native Mounts TERRA has four types of lens mounts: native EF mount (S35), native EF mount w/ KineEnhancer (equivalent full frame), native PL mount (/i tech) and new active KineMOUNT. KineMOUNT provides enough possibility due to its short FFD. New KineMOUNT is re-designed to be light with electronic contact (active) in order to support PL mounting adapter with /i tech and new cordless EF mounting adapter. For max flexibility, KineMOUNT is best choice, and more mounting adapters with different functions will be introduced in the future.

Whole-new Accessories A group of whole-new accessories are designed specifically for TERRA, so that TERRA can be configured for one-man job or a professional filmmaking crew. KineBACKProvides more than SDI monitoring, XLR 48V audio, V-mount plate, regulated DC outputs, Timecode sync and 3D sync in one little module. KineMON native monitor powered and got video from TERRA by only one cord. KineGRIP II new handgrip w/ powering and control from BP-U30 compatible battery, one hour for usage. KineBAT-120W Super compact V-mount battery provides over four hours to TERRA. KineKIT-TR from Movcam takes into account of TERRA in different scenarios, such as hand-held, tripod, on shoulder, gimbal, high and low shooting angles, etc., which makes it best choice for TERRA.

Firm is the soul of camera. The KineOS5.0 on TERRA keeps simple as previous version and also has many features for a professional cinema camera. It is responsive, clean and easy to access:

Advanced Waveform 

KineMAX has waveform in-camera: you don’t need to buy monitor with waveform. Using waveform, cameraman can judge exposure quickly and accurately. The difference between KineMAX and other camera is that KineMAX has two ways to examine the exposure: just RAW data or RAW+LUT data. RAW data is what sensor sees directly; and RAW+LUT data is more like human eyes, in waveform and histogram.


ZOOM and Focusing

KineMAX provides Zoom to help focusing: full, 100%, 200%, 800%. Just press the Zoom button to toggle zoom ratio quickly. Zoom to 800% provides an interesting focusing signal: aliasing clear means focusing right.


Accurate Automatic WB 

KineMAX provides accurate Automatic WB, so that you can deal with complicated lighting environment easily. Just use grey card or white card before lens, to set the WB accurately instantly. KineMAX would save the parameter into camera for later usage. Besides, KineMAX has two options for white-balance list: simple list and complete list. The complete list contains a long list for different lighting and different WB value (step is 50K) . For most cases, an appropriate WB setting you could find to match your condition.

Histogram with Tick Mark  

KineMAX integrate not only histogrm, but also special tick mark. The tick mark has two ticks: one is grey, the other is white. That means 18% grey and 90% white respectively. The exposure level would lie on the grey or white tick if you use 18% grey card or 90% white card before camera, and set ISO, Iris and shutter time accurately, based on lightmeter. Like waveform, histogram also shows RAW or RAW+LUT data automatically.


Accurate and custom sensor fps  

You can set any custom sensor fps between lowest (6fps at current firmware) and highest fps (different for different resolution and different framing), the accuracy is 0.001fps, while recording fps is set by project fps in the camera. It provides much more possibilities over fixed fps like 24, 25, 30fps. So that you are free to create more amazing videos with different fps.

EI and ISO 
EI/ISO is a setting on capture abilit of Image Sensor. KineMAX™ can config in two ways: EI to match film camera setting; ISO to match general camera setting and highlight level can be tuned at the same time.



Real 3D Shots

KineMAX can take real 3D shots. Just one SYNC cable to connect two KineMAX SYNC port, set up Master and Slave instantly. 3D SYNC means: Scan sync, frame sync and time code sync, less than 5uS of mismatch! For a multi-camera sync system (more than two), all TERRA cameras need to be equipped with KineBACK. Besides, you should purchase a KineSYNC device and a few SYNC cords: one KineSYNC device can sync up to eight TERRAs (one master camera and seven slave cameras).

Presets for Parameters 

In-Camera Presets are a set of parameters for recording and shooting: Resolution/FPS/Record format/Shutter speed/Frame size; And there are EIGHT in-camera presets, and it provides quick switch for these presets: BACK/VIEW button to pop up the Preset Shortcut list.


Anamorphic Lens 

If you have anamorphic lens and want to give super wide effect, TERRA fulfills the dream. TERRA supports 4K 4:3 anamorphic frame size, and de-squeeze images into normal images in live view and playback, just setting the display ratio according to your anamorphic ratio. For example, you will get 8K image effect if you use 2:1 anamorphic lens in 4K 4:3 mode for TERRA 6K; All you have to do is set the anamorphic ratio in configure menu.

Framing Ratio: 2.39:1  

KineMAX supports 2.39:1 liveview and recording natively, besides 16:9 or 2:1 framing ratio. 2.39:1 is DCI scope standard, which is often used in short film and cinema projection.


Smart FAN Control 

TERRA has in-camera fan to cool the camera itself and make camera work well in stable condition. Fan generates noise. You can choose Record Stop in Fan setting to make FAN stop works temporarily: Fan works when live view; Stops when recording begins so that it is totally quiet when recording. It is very important in quiet environment, and sensitive to any audible noise. Strongly Recommend fan running when recording ProRes.

Upgrade Firmware by USB  

TERRA functions more than just a data table, by updating firmware. Updating firmware is easy and quick: download firmware, copy it into USB flash thumb, insert to TERRA USB port, press upgrade in the menu. The update job is done after a few mins.


Iris-Control on EF Lens  

KineMAX supports majority of lens with iris-control as soon as you buy camera with native EF mount or active EF mounting adapter for KineMOUNT mount. KineMAX displays Iris number and tune it directly. Also you can just disable electronic active EF mounting adapter so that protects it from all-metal lens backend. Check the compatible lens white list.
