MAVO LF/MAVO Cine Camera

MAVO and MAVO LF are based on the same image process platform, using advanced color processing architecture and whole new CMOS image sensors to achieve super low-noise, high dynamic range. Whether it is the S35 format version of MAVO or the large-format version of MAVO LF, the 6K cameras can bring stunning details and organic images. MAVO adpots S35 6K CMOS image sensor, suitable for S35 lens and large format lens. MAVO LF with large-format sensor provides cleaner images, wider viewing angles, shallower depth of field, and more immersive presence for cinematographers.

Also, MAVO LF/MAVO provides three kinds of intermediate codecs suitable for editing and color grading to simplify the workflow and provide the maximum room for post-processing. For ProRes, it records Apple ProRes format up to ProRes4444XQ. For KineRAW, KRW2.0 as compressed RAW has compression ratio from 2:1~10:1 (KRW 2.0 might be available by firmware update in 2019). To work with Davinci Resolve, MAVO LF/MAVO can record compressed cinemaDNG(cDNG) now, and the compression ratio can be set to 3:1, 5:1, or 7:1.

MAVO and MAVO LF keep the tiny camera body with the doubled processing ability and more encoding ability, and are compatible with TERRA accessories. It benefits from MAVO LF/MAVO’s advanced computation architecture and low-power design so that it packs such powerful performance into such a small and reliable body. After inserting a wireless card (DarkTower platform) into the new KineBACK-W, MAVO and MAVO LF turn into a wireless camera: wireless video transmission and wireless lens control system (support Movcam), which greatly simplifies the connection between the camera and the accessories, improves reliability and durability significantly.

MAVO LF 

Large Format MAVO LF is equipped with a full-frame CMOS image sensor, effective area as 36x24mm, resolution up to 6K: 6016×4016. Compared to the S35 format sensor, the CMOS imaging sensor area is 2.25 times; the pixel pitch is 50% bigger; the SNR is better, then the picture is cleaner. In addition, large format offers a wider perspective, shallower depth of field and more immersive presence. You can use not only cinema lenses designed for large format like MAVO Prime, CP3, Cooke S7i, Arri Signature Prime and Zeiss Signature Prime, but also a large number of existing full-frame still camera lenses.

MAVO 

S35 MAVO employs S35 CMOS imaging sensor with 3:2 aspect ratio. The maximum effective area of imaging area is 24x16mm, while maximum recordable resolution is up to 6016×4016, 24 Millions pixels. The size of imaging sensor perfectly matches traditional cinema S35 lenses, or APS-C and full-frame lenses with universal KineMOUNT simultaneouly. Compared to traditional 16:9 or DCI ratio of S35-sized CMOS imaging sensor, MAVO has much more flexible image outputs, especially the S35 anamorphic format.

Dual Native ISO 5120/800 MAVO LF’s whole-new full frame CMOS imaging sensor, not only brings much larger pixel size, but also has dual native ISO: 5120 and 800. The feature of dual native ISO differentiates MAVO LF from other/traditional cinema cameras. The noise performance of the big guy is even much better than TERRA 4K, so you can trust its native 5120 ISO when low-light even no-light cases. It helps indie filmmakers get the jobs done much more easily and economically.

ISO The new S35 CMOS sensor benefits from advanced CMOS imaging sensor process: lowering the noise of sampling images greatly, half of TERRA 6K noise roughly, so that achieves much higher sensitivity. Although base ISO is 800, the noise level is still very low with 1600, 2560 and 3200 ISO, even higher ISO up to 5120. If the 4K or 2K resolution is output by oversampling, the ISO could work up to higher and image output is still very crispy and clean.

6K 75fps! MAVO LF features more slow-mo than regular MAVO 6K, also lower “jello effect”. It wipes away that the nightmare of full frame CMOS sensor’ strong jello effect. 5K wide up to 80fps, 4K wide up to 100fps at S35 image format. For more cropping, 3K wide gets 150fps and 2K wide gets 200fps. The image quality of all these slow-mo is same with regular frame rate. And it encodes 6K 30fps to ProRes4444, even 4K HD 48fps to ProRes4444XQ.

6K 66fps! The frame rate is up to 66fps at S35 6K Wide, up to 100fps at M43 4K Wide and up to 192fps at 2K Wide. These high-speed images are exactly same with the normal frame rate. In addition, it has in-camera over-sampling, so that under the S35 format, a super high quality 4K images can be recorded up to ProRes4444XQ.

Full Frame Anamorphic and S35 Anamorphic! MAVO LF’s full frame CMOS sensor is like a big canvas which make many anamorphic shootings possible. For full frame anamorphic: no matter 4:3 mode 5376×4160 or 6:5 4864×4160(the height of active area is 24mm), the desqueezed image coming from MAVO LF will be a 65mm format with FF anamorphic lenses mounted. For S35 anamorphic: both 4:3 4096×3072 and 1:1 3072×3072 (the height of active area is 18.3mm) can work up to 50fps.

S35 Anamorphic MAVO might be the best S35 cinema camera for anamorphic shooting with super image quality, two S35 anamorphic modes: 4:3 mode 5.3K or 6:5 mode 4.9K (at this time, height of CMOS image sensor is 16mm). No matter the mainstream S35 A2x lenses, or 1.33x lenses, it is easy to get super cinematic images.

4K 100FPS Both MAVO and MAVO LF have very good slow-mo ability. MAVO outputs 66fps and MAVO LF outputs 75fps at 6K Wide. Both directly record to 100fps at 4K Wide, whereas MAVO LF can records to 150fps at 3K Wide when cropping mode and 200fps at 2K Wide. It also has quick-mo ability, the lowest frame rate is 0.2fps. The frame rate can be set between 0.2fps and the max frame rate allowed, the accuracy of 0.001fps. When shooting, it is recorded at the project frame rate (for example, 25 fps).

CinemaDNG

Compressed cDNG  CinemaDNG returns to MAVO, Kine camera again with configurable compression ratio! MAVO can in-camera record compressed RAW with CinemaDNG format, and the compression ratio is configurable, from 3:1, 5:1 to 7:1. Davinci Resolve natively supports CinemaDNG, so that you can directly import, edit and grade the CinemaDNG footage shot by MAVO in Davinci Resolve! No matter 3:1, 5:1 or 7:1, every format is able to achieve super high quality image and room for post-production.

KRW

KineRAW 

KineRAW (.krw) codec, cinema-level codec is developed by Kinefinity with great efforts and resources. KRW2.0 is a compressed RAW with compression ratio from 2:1 to 10:1, so that it can be recorded as RAW when very high resolution and very high frame rate. If compression ratio is 3:1, one 500GB KineMAG SSD could record around 90 minutes 4K RAW clips with its data rate slightly larger than ProRes422HQ.It really fits 4K, 6K recording and HiSpeed recording: reserving max grading room, saving much storage spaces and easier data backup. KRW 2.0 might be available by firmware update in 2019. 

Wireless Camera  After inserting a wireless card (DarkTower platform) into the new KineBACK-W, MAVO and MAVO LF turn into a wireless camera: 600m/1000m wireless video transmission with zero delay and wireless lens control system (support Movcam), no need extra power supply, additional connected and fixed to HDMI or SDI cables, which greatly simplifies the connection between the camera and the accessories, improves reliability and durability significantly.

2.5″ SSD recording media MAVO LF/MAVO employs standard 2.5″ 7mm SSD SATA3.0 as recording media to provide compatibility of 3rd-party SSD, though MAVO LF/MAVO is so small. There are lots of off-the-shelf 7mm SSD available. However performance of 3rd party SSD is not guaranteed, only official 7mm KineMAG 500G/1T SSD is recommended for serious shootings.

Custom in-camera LUT  You can upload the LUT/color style which you like, or DP like, or designed by post house to MAVO, so that the workflow from shooting to post will be optimised and reduce the time for you, also help on-site lighting and art work. For recording with custom LUT, it does not burn into footage: footage is always logged (by KineLOG3), on-site LUT for monitoring is saved to the same folder. The size of 3D LUT is from 8x8x8 up to 33x33x33.

Multi-Framing Oversampling + Crop mode + KineEnhancer = infinity combination of resolution, fps and framing. With the help of in-camera oversampling, MAVO records to 6K ProRes, but also 4K/3K/2K ProRes with sharper and more clean images at S35. The framing can be from S35 up to full frame if using KineEnhancer, while cropping mode can boost the higher fps. Of course, MAVO LF does not need KineEnhancer to get full frame. MAVO supports above three modes to get multi-framing and multi res, at different fps.

KineMOUNT as Omni Mount MAVO LF/MAVO is with new KineMOUNT, which is re-designed to be light with electronic contact (active) in order to support new PL mounting adapter with /i tech and new cordless EF mounting adapter, EF mounting adapter with KineEnhancernew SONY FE/E mounting adapter, EF/PL mounting adapters with electronic ND(e-ND), etc.

Selected Accessories MAVO LF/MAVO is designed to be compatible with TERRA accessories. KineBACK-W provides more than SDI monitoring, XLR 48V audio, V-mount plate, regulated DC output, timecode sync and 3D sync in one little module, but also it bases on Darktower platform to support wireless video and lens control. KineMON as fullHD 5″ monitor is powered and fed video from MAVO LF/MAVO body by only one cord. SideGrip, as new handgrip w/ powering and control from GripBAT 45Wh(BP-U30 compatible) battery, more than one hour for usage. KineBAT 120Wh as Super compact V-mount battery provides over four hours to MAVO LF/MAVO. KineKIT-TERRA from Movcam takes into account of MAVO LF/MAVO in different scenarios, such as hand-held, tripod, on shoulder, gimbal, high and low shooting angles, etc., which makes it best choice for MAVO/MAVO LF.

As the flagship product of the Kine cameras, MAVO is equipped with new high-speed, low-noise CMOS image sensors, while MAVO LF employs a new full-format CMOS imaging sensor which opens the era of large-format production with other top large-format cameras. For the in-camera encoding codec, the compressed CinemaDNG format is available, so that the RAW footage can be directly imported, edited and graded in DaVinci Resolve, simplifying the RAW workflow greatly. At the same time, MAVO LF/MAVO still remains pleasing color science with wider dynamic range, and it also features super compact and lightweight camera body and sufficient reliability.

Firm is the soul of camera. The KineOS6.0 on MAVO LF/MAVO keeps simple as previous version and also has many features for a professional cinema camera. It is responsive, clean and easy to access:

Advanced Waveform 

MAVO LF/MAVO has waveform in-camera: you don’t need to buy monitor with waveform. Using waveform, cameraman can judge exposure quickly and accurately. The difference between MAVO LF/MAVO and other camera is that MAVO LF/MAVO has two ways to examine the exposure: just RAW (w/ KineLOG) data or RAW(w/ KineLOG) + LUT data. RAW data is what sensor sees directly; and RAW+LUT data is more like human eyes, in waveform and histogram.

ZOOM and Focusing

MAVO LF/MAVO provides Zoom to help focusing: full, 100%, 200%, 800%. Just press the Zoom button to toggle zoom ratio quickly. Zoom to 800% provides an interesting focusing signal: aliasing clear means focusing right.


Accurate Automatic WB 

MAVO LF/MAVO provides accurate Automatic WB, so that you can deal with complicated lighting environment easily. Just use grey card or white card before lens, to set the WB accurately instantly. MAVO LF/MAVO would save the parameter into camera for later usage. Besides, MAVO LF/MAVO has two options for white-balance list: simple list and complete list. The complete list contains a long list for different lighting and different WB value (step is 50K) . For most cases, an appropriate WB setting you could find to match your condition.

Histogram with Tick Mark *(Not available yet)

MAVO LF/MAVO integrate not only histogrm, but also special tick mark: 18% grey and 90% white respectively. Under current light condition, if the exposure is accurately fit for light meter by using matched color temperature, light type and ISO of camera configuration, the grey card will be at the mark. Like waveform, histogram also shows RAW(w/ KineLOG) or RAW(w/ KineLOG)+LUT data automatically.


Accurate and custom sensor fps  

You can set any custom sensor fps between lowest (0.2fps at current firmware) and highest fps (different for different resolution and different framing), the accuracy is 0.001fps, while recording fps is set by project fps in the camera. Under full-frame image, you can casually record to 0.2~75fps @6K Wide and under S35 crop image, you can casually record to 0.2~100fps @4K Wide, so that you are free to create more amazing videos with different fps.

Presets for Parameters 

In-Camera Presets are a set of parameters for recording: Resolution, FPS, Record format, Shutter speed, etc; and there are EIGHT in-camera presets, and it provides quick switch for these presets: BACK/VIEW button to pop up the Preset Shortcut list.


Anamorphic Lens 

If you have anamorphic lens and want to give super wide effect, MAVO LF/MAVO fulfills the dream. MAVO LF/MAVO supports 4K 4:3 and 6:5 anamorphic frame size, and de-squeeze images into normal images in liveview and playback, just setting the display ratio according to your anamorphic ratio. For example, you will get 10K image effect if you use 2:1 anamorphic lens in 4K 4:3 mode; All you have to do is set the anamorphic ratio in configure menu.

Framing Ratio: 2.39:1  

Kine camera supports 2.39:1 liveview and recording natively, besides 16:9 or 2:1 framing ratio. 2.39:1 is DCI scope standard, which is often used in short film and cinema projection.


Smart FAN Control 

Kine camera has in-camera fan to cool the camera itself and make camera work well in stable condition. Fan generates noise. You can choose Record Stop in Fan setting to make FAN stop works temporarily: Fan works when live view; Stops when recording begins so that it is totally quiet when recording. It is very important in quiet environment, and sensitive to any audible noise. Strongly Recommend fan running when hot weather.

Upgrade Firmware by USB  

Kine camera functions more than just a data table by updating firmware. Updating firmware is easy and quick: download firmware, copy it into USB flash thumb, insert to USB port, press upgrade in the menu. The update job is done after 15 mins.


Iris-Control on EF Lens  

Kine camera supports majority of lenses with iris-control as soon as you buy camera with native EF mount or active EF mounting adapter for KineMOUNT mount. Kine camera displays Iris number and tune it directly. Also you can just disable electronic active EF mounting adapter so that protects it from all-metal lens backend. Check the compatible lens white list.

Real 3D Shots

Kine camera can take real 3D shots. Just one SYNC cable to connect two Kine camera SYNC port, set up Master and Slave instantly. 3D SYNC means: Scan sync, frame sync and time code sync, less than 5us of mismatch! For a multi-camera sync system (more than two), all Kine cameras need to be equipped with KineBACK-W. Besides, you should purchase a KineSYNC device and a few SYNC cords: one KineSYNC device can sync up to eight MAVO LFs/MAVOs (one master camera and seven slave cameras).
